Difference Between New And Full Moons

Updated: Oct 6, 2021

In the beginning of my journey, I couldn't remember what I was "supposed" to do during the moon cycles. Well, let me first start off by telling you that, you don't have to wait for a specific moon cycle to do any of what I'm going to describe. If you are called to "release and let go" mid month, then do so. If you are called to "set your intentions" mid month, then do so. The beauty of your spiritual journey is that its YOURS. No one can tell you how, what or when to do something.

Full Moons

Releasing and Letting Go

Full moons are typically for releasing and letting go of things, situations, mindsets, etc. Since the full moon is at it's brightest it helps illuminate what has been hidden all month long. Because we are setting the intention of releasing and letting go, I do not keep record of what I'm letting go of. If you let it go, why do you need a reminder of what it was? What I typically do is write down in my journal the date, the moon name, then write something like "I now release and let go of what is no longer serving me and so it is" and then close it with a prayer and gratitude. On a separate piece of paper I write down everything that is no longer serving me or what I want to let go of. Then, I rip up the paper into tiny pieces and scatter it throughout the trash cans, that way I can't go back and see what I wrote ;o). There are plenty of different ways to do this, the key point is to not keep a record of it.

Charging Items

During the full moons I also like to recharge or reset my crystals and tarot/oracle decks. I do this by placing my crystals either outside or in a window that I know the moon light will reach them. As for my decks, I arrange them in numerical order starting with the Major Arcana, then the Minor, (Wands, Swords, Cups, and Pentacles) since I live in an area where its not uncommon to get some overnight drizzle I choose not to place them outside but in a window. I leave both my crystals and my cards out overnight and bring them in sometime before noon, usually around 10 or 11am.

Moon Water

So I am fairly new to making moon water, but here's what I know. It's super easy! All you need is a clear container, and a pen and paper. Adding crystals can amplify your water but it's not 100% necessary. On that paper write down what your intentions are for the water. I like to use the same intentions for all my moon waters; Protection, clearing, clarity, abundance in all areas, love, compassion, and clear communication. Once I've done that I set my water outside during the full moon and again leave it out overnight. What is moon water good for? Anything!!! I add some in bottles (like the ones I sell) and add some essential oils. Typically I use sage and sandlewood but I've also used lotus flower oil. I use that mixture just as you would use an air freshener but with the added benefit of my intentions, think of it as a "bad vibe begone". You can add it to an aromatherapy diffuser with your choice of essential oils, if you haven't added anything to it yet you can drink it, water your plants with it or even give it to your pets.

New Moons

Manifesting

New moons are typically for manifesting and setting intentions for the new month/cycle. Since the moon is not visible during this time making moon water or recharging items isn't as powerful. When setting your intentions I do recommend keeping a record of them.

Here is an example of how I start my journal entry:

"This or something better now manifest for the highest good of all concerned.

Dear Universe, May I have your support to clear this space so that my truest intentions can flow clearly from my heart onto this page. And so it it. Amen."

Then I write out 10 things and I always state my intentions in the present tense, I am at peace, my family and friends are healthy and happy, my heart is open....etc.

I close my entry with gratitude and then write down

"I am freeing myself from clinging onto my wishes and I am giving it up to you."

Make sure you date it so you can refer back to it as your manifestations come to fruition and sign your entry.

Extra Tips

-New moons happen towards the beginning of the month.

-Full moons are towards the end of the month.

-Each full/new moon has a zodiac sign associated with it, use that sign to guide you with your intentions.

-It's nice to look back at your intentions/manifestions after 6 months. Example: During the full moon in Aries on 10/20/21 I will look back in my journal for my new moon in Aries intentions that I wrote on 4/11/21 and see what has already came to fruition, review what no longer aligns with my journey and make any changes if needed and release and let go of the rest.

-Again, you don't have to wait for a specific time to do ANY of these things. Manifest daily, release and let go daily.

-Sit with the feelings of your intentions, your manifestations. How will you feel in your new home? How will you decorate your kitchen? Your living room? Bathroom?

-There is no wish or dream that is too big.

-Have FUN!
